Braving the Cold

Braving the Cold

Last Friday, Chicago Veterans members laced up their winter boots, put on their hats and gloves, and jumped on the train headed towards downtown Chicago to raise awareness of our Homeless Veteran Population. According to the numbers, Chicago has over 5,000 homeless individuals, and it is reported that 16% of them are Veterans.

Even though it was cold and the wind chill was below freezing, that didn’t stop them! They hit the Christkindlmarket, the Blue Line train station, Michigan Ave, and everywhere in between, passing out information, raising awareness, and promoting an upcoming event to help our homeless veteran population.

On December 15th, Columbia College Chicago’s Student Veteran Association will host their 5th annual 24HR HOMELESS VETERAN SLEEPOUT. Each year they gather in solidarity with the homeless veteran population and elect to spend 24 hours braving the elements of winter in Chicago. Their goal is to shed light and help end veteran homelessness in Chicago.
