Development Intern

This internship position is unpaid. It is located in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Chicago

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Participates in prospect research activities on a regular and ongoing basis to identify new corporate and foundation donors
  • Assists with production of donor mail appeals and special events
  • Conducts data input into CRM system
  • Assists with submission of major grants and reports
  • Assemble media packets and other marketing materials
  • Other general fundraising and admin duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Interest in the nonprofit sector
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • CRM or other database experience a plus, but not required

Special Events Intern

This internship position is unpaid, working approximately 5-10 hours per week. It is located in the Jefferson Park neightborhood. Occasional evenings and weekends will be required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the planning and coordination of meetings and events
  • Assists with on-site event management, including but not limited to set-up and break-down
  • Maintain up-to-date event documents
  • Procure and organize supplies for events
  • Conducts data input into CRM database system
  • Other general fundraising and admin duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Interest in the nonprofit sector
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • CRM or other database experience a plus, but not required

Marketing and Communications Intern

The Marketing & Communications Intern will assists in the coordination of marketing, community relations, advertising and competitive and marketing intelligence to promote Chicago Veterans and all of its programs and services. The Marketing & Communications Intern hours are flexible and part-time as scheduled with the Director of Development.

This internship position is unpaid. It is located in the Jefferson Park neighborhood.

Outreach

  • Coordinate and assist with outreach efforts as determined by the Director of Marketing
  • Assist with management of the organizational Communications Calendar.
  • Prepare press releases, with the approval of the Director of Marketing.
  • Work with staff to identify potential media opportunities and stories.
  • Assist with developing the organization’s quarterly newsletter, including the timing of publication; content, with staff input; layout and design; and printing.
  • Assist with coordinating communications and advertising as needed.
  • Assist with creating and distribute email “blast” communications.
  • Assist with creating organization’s presence on social networking sites.

Marketing

  • Assist with creating and updating all printed materials.
  • Assist with keeping website content current, and the appearance of the site user-friendly, professional and attractive.
  • Recommend and assist with the execution of social media activities across platforms, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc. including creating relevant content
  • Assist with the maintenance of social media calendars.
  • Assist with the production of social performance reports for Chicago Veterans and benchmark brands.
  • Advocate for Chicago Veterans in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues, and answering questions. Stay informed of trending topics and social media trends to leverage and/or communicate accordingly.
  • Assist with Search Engine Optimization and tracking, examining, and reporting website analytics.
  • Responsible for the layout, execution and management of email communications and campaigns.
  • Contribute to idea generation, product development, and marketing research (as needed).

Qualifications

  • Enrolled and actively seeking degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or other media related field.
  • Available for a 5-10 hours per week between 10 AM and 7 PM.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and effectively produce accurate written, digital, and verbal information.
  • Able to work both on and off-site and clearly communicate with supervisors about work progress.
  • Ability to take initiative and self –direct
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, knowledge of basic HTML coding, and social media preferred.
