Background:
The National Veterans Art Museum, born out of the Vietnam Veterans Art Group (VVAG) in 1979-1980, defied the norms of traditional galleries, becoming a sanctuary for art deemed controversial or sensitive about the Vietnam War. From its humble beginnings housing 700 works of art by 115 artists who served in Vietnam, the museum has grown to showcase over 2,000 pieces from veterans spanning WWII to the Global War on Terror.
