Our Chicago Veterans

Staying active during the quarantine

We understand that going into self-quarantine can have many complex issues among our Veterans community. Chicago has been in some form of quarantine since March of this year leaving a large social connectedness void amongst Veterans who depend on social events and activities to help with their mental and physical wellbeing.

Chicago Veterans like many other Veteran nonprofits such as Team RWB and the VFW who focus heavily on community engagement and social connectedness have shifted many of their programs and services virtually allowing their veterans to continue to stay connected and engaged.

But there are also many other great resources and services available in and around Chicago that can help you stay fit, learn a new skill, go outdoors (safely) or even explore many museums without ever leaving the comfort of your couch.

We decided to ask our Veterans what they are doing during Chicago’s stay at home order.

Hoopla

“Being quarantined has allowed me to catch up on some much-needed reading. The Chicago Public Library has partnered with a great mobile app called Hoopla that allows residents to borrower up to 6 titles including eBooks, Audiobooks, podcasts, and more. If you are looking some something to do I highly suggest you stop by the Chicago Public Library or download the app!”

Lollapalooza

For all you concert goers, Lollapalooza is going virtual this year and posting all their videos directly on YouTube. “I was extremely bummed when Lollapalooza announced its concert was canceled. I have been going for years, but I completely understand why, but for all those who love concerts, Lollapalooza is going live on YouTube.”

Swallow Cliff Woods

“I am a fitness junkie and love being outdoors. I was extremely happy when Illinois announced they will open their forest preserves back up. Illinois has so many nice trails, my favorite is Swallow Cliff with their fitness stairs. Swallow Cliff is right outside of Chicago so it’s a quick ride.”

Virtual Museum Tours

Chicago has many world class museums but did you know you can visit these and many more museums around the world from the comfort of your couch? Over 75 museums from around the globe have opened their doors virtually.
